This is an exciting time to become Centre Manager of Carey Outdoor Education Centre as we develop our offer at the venue. We are interesting in hearing from dynamic and inspiring managers with significant experience within the field of Outdoor Education and Alternative Provision. We are also keen to hear from candidates who hold a teaching qualification.
Carey is a base for specialist and targeted Outdoor Education intervention for children and young people. Much of the work of the centre is alongside Dorset Council's Harbour East team working with children who are on the edge of care or edging towards care.
The centre also provides outdoor learning for young people who are finding school challenging or are on reduced timetables or at risk of being excluded. Some of this work is with young people who display challenging behaviours and the Centre Manager must have experience in establishing effective strategies in order to provide successful outcomes.
We also welcome families and carers to the Centre so that they can benefit from spending time together in the special environment that Carey provides. Some of this work will be residential and may even extend beyond Carey into visits and adventures in other areas.
Candidates will also be required to have a clear understanding of how effective Outdoor Education links to and complements the National Curriculum. This enables us to speak knowledgeably with schools and other organisations when creating bespoke programmes of Outdoor Education. Provision at the Centre covers the entire spectrum of Outdoor Education from activities such as archery and low ropes, to gardening, campfire cooking, environmental art and even music. We need you to bring your skills, ideas and passion into our fantastic venue so that we can create meaningful and successful programmes of activities which engage with our young people and forge strong and trusting relationships.
