About the role

Are you an experienced qualified teacher looking for a challenging leadership role that will make a real difference to children’s education in Dorset?

Career development is at the heart of what we do. We are motivated and aspirational with the drive to develop and progress in our roles. For this reason, we offer excellent training and professional development opportunities.

In Children’s Services you will work in a system that places the child and family at the centre, involving them in decision making and empowering families. We are embedding these values across our children’s services system, placing good relationships at the heart of what we do. This also means that we use these values to guide our relationships with each other, and our partners, to make sure that our services for children are the best they can be.

Dorset is a fabulous place to work, having the Jurassic coast, beaches and countryside on your doorstep.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a forward-thinking team and make a real difference for Children and young people's education in Dorset. If you have the passion, drive and experience to succeed in this role, we want to hear from you!

What you can expect to be doing:

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Interim Principal Lead for Best Education for All who will be responsible for supporting the delivery of the Education Strategy for children and young people in Dorset to receive the best education. This role provides strategic leadership, development, and supervision for the work of all those in localities with a teaching qualification.

Working with central and locality teams the role provides key strategic direction for educational provision, school standards and improvement.  This is a great opportunity to work on a fixed term 6 month contract, shaping the future of education in Dorset.

You will be responsible for providing tactical leadership to the Council’s school standards and improvement model to promote inclusion and high standards in the Dorset education system through the Education Challenge Leads.

In this role you will drive improvement and development work in Dorset through collaboration and a “One Team Dorset” approach to working in localities and across localities.

About you:

To succeed in this role, you will need to be a strategic thinker and a natural leader. You will have a proven track record of managing services, implementing policies and developing effective strategies that deliver outstanding results. You will be a great communicator, able to build positive relationships with a wide range of internal and external contacts, including governors and headteachers.

This role requires someone who is adaptable, able to work within frequently changing circumstances and conflicting priorities with the responsibility to change the priorities of others. You will be able to work under pressure, manage conflicting demands and tight deadlines, whilst maintaining a positive and solution-focused attitude.

Interviews will take place on the 21st and 24th February 2025.
