About the role

TEACHER OF A LEVEL PSYCHOLOGY – MATERNITY COVER

MPS/UPS full time or part time will be considered (the salary details shown are full time)

September 2025 – July 2026 (with the potential of an Easter 2025 start for suitable candidates)

Within the Social Sciences Faculty, we require an outstanding and inspirational teacher of psychology for a one-year maternity cover starting in September 2026. For suitable candidates, there is the possibility of an Easter 2025 start. You will be responsible for planning and delivering high quality lessons and achieving excellent results for your students, instilling in them a love for the subject and a desire to learn. A willingness to teach throughout Years 9 to 13, and to offer a second subject, is advantageous even though the majority of your teaching would be post-16. The course has been designed and developed with an excellent bank of resources making it a suitable position for a candidate with prior experience teaching A Levels that may not necessarily include psychology. In these instances, an enthusiasm and genuine interest to develop your knowledge in the subject would be essential.

Further Information

We can offer excellent working conditions, a supportive environment and plenty of opportunity for further development at one of the most successful comprehensive schools in the country. Students at the Thomas Hardye School typically want to be successful so their attitude towards learning is excellent. The superb facilities include an on-site nursery, a sports complex with company membership for staff.

Further details and an application form are available on the school website (www.thomas-hardye.net).

Please send your letter of application together with a completed application form to Mrs Anita Pullen (Headteacher’s PA) by end of day on Wednesday 5th February.

The Thomas Hardye School values the diversity of our workforce and welcomes applications from all sectors of the community.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people; this is a commitment which we expect all staff and volunteers to share. The successful candidate will be required to have a Disclosure and Barring Service check in line with the Governments safer recruitment guidelines.

This role is UK based and your Right to Work will need to be established as part of the appointment process.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974. The amendments to the ROA 1974 (Exceptions Order 1975, (2013 and 2020)) provide that when applying for certain jobs and activities, certain spent convictions and cautions are ‘protected’, so they do not need to be disclosed to employers, and if they are disclosed, employers cannot take them into account. The MOJ’s guidance on the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the Exceptions Order 1975, provides information about which convictions must be declared during job applications and related exceptions and further information about filtering offences can be found in the DBS filtering guide.

Keeping Children Safe in Education

The Thomas Hardye School will conduct online searches of shortlisted candidates. This check will be part of a safeguarding check, and the search will purely be based on whether an individual is suitable to work with children. All aspects of social media and internet searches will be conducted. As care must be taken to avoid unconscious bias and any risk of discrimination, a person who will not on the appointment panel will conduct the searches and will only share information if and when findings are relevant and of concern.
