About the role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable SEN specialist with current expertise and qualifications in CCN/ASC to lead our CCN provision within our Mainstream Middle School. We are looking for someone with a wealth of SEN knowledge and experience to lead our base of 10 pupils. The right candidate does not have to have a teaching qualification, but experience working with pupils with ASC and special educational needs is a must. We are seeking a professional with an attitude and approach that always puts the needs of the child first; someone who can display unconditional positive regard for children and face challenges with resilience.

Working under the direction of the school’s Senior Leadership Team and in partnership with a range of external professionals, you will be the lead person for the 10 wonderful pupils who attend our provision.  You will design the individual learning plans and timetables for the pupils and will be ably supported by a team of Teaching Assistants to ensure the children make fantastic all-round progress.  The main goal of our base provision is to support the pupils to integrate into their mainstream classroom, and the wider life of the school, as appropriate.

We are striving to make our base a place for the pupils to thrive and access their full potential within a mainstream school.

This could be the perfect job for you, if you:

  • have proven experience of working with children who have CCN and/or ASC and/or SEMH needs
  • can work well as part of a team AND lead a team
  • prioritise working in collaboration to meet the needs of the pupil you support.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974. The amendments to the ROA 1974 (Exceptions Order 1975, (2013 and 2020)) provide that when applying for certain jobs and activities, certain spent convictions and cautions are ‘protected’, so they do not need to be disclosed to employers, and if they are disclosed, employers cannot take them into account. The MOJ’s guidance on the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the Exceptions Order 1975, provides information about which convictions must be declared during job applications and related exceptions and further information about filtering offences can be found in the DBS filtering guide.

Keeping Children Safe in Education

The school will conduct online searches of shortlisted candidates. This check will be part of a safeguarding check, and the search will purely be based on whether an individual is suitable to work with children. All aspects of social media and internet searches will be conducted. As care must be taken to avoid unconscious bias and any risk of discrimination, a person who will not on the appointment panel will conduct the searches and will only share information if and when findings are relevant and of concern.
