About the role

SEN Teaching Assistant: Mainstream

Pickwick Academy Trust would like to recruit a part-time SEN Teaching Assistant: Mainstream, based at Gillingham Primary School. The appointment will be fixed-term due to funding for a named child and the contract will end when he/she leaves Gillingham Primary School or no longer needs support.

Hours: 25 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9:00am to midday plus 1:00pm to 3:00pm, 38 weeks per year, term time, excluding TD days.

Salary range: Dorset Grade 4, Point 4, Dorset Grade 6, Point 6, £24,404 to £25,183 pro rata, actual salary £13,883 to £14,326 per annum

Required to start: 6 January 2025

We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced Teaching Assistant to join our mainstream support team. We pride ourselves on being a highly inclusive school and offering the highest quality academic and pastoral support to a wide range of pupils with differing needs. We are looking for an individual who can apply their knowledge, skills and excellent practice in working with SEN pupils throughout the school. This will involve supporting pupils in the classroom, in group work and on an individual basis.

Under the direction and supervision of the SENCO, you will:

  • support children’s learning through the social context of play activities, designed to support success and independence in everyday routines, both within an individual and small group basis
  • help meet pupil’s academic, social, emotional and communication needs within the classroom and during social activities
We are looking for someone who:
 
  • can demonstrate knowledge, understanding and experience relating to pupils with high-level SEND
  • has experience of enabling children with high-level needs to make progress in their learning; applying knowledge of the curriculum appropriately and having high expectations for every child
  • develops effective relationships with children that enable them to engage well in their learning and develop socially, emotionally and personally
  • is supportive of a therapeutic approach - both when managing challenging behaviour and in their daily approach
  • is committed to excellent teamwork and communicates effectively with colleagues, parents and children
  • demonstrates emotional resilience and enjoys the challenge of a varied and highly rewarding role

Further Information

The jobholder must demonstrate a commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. This will involve undertaking annual Safeguard training and using school reporting systems for any Safeguard concerns.
