About ICT User Support:

The ICT User Support team at Dorset Council helps over 5,000 staff members with their technology needs. They provide support over the phone, online, and in person at locations around the county. They also help set up things like computers, software, and accounts to keep everything running smoothly.

What You’ll Learn:

As an ICT User Support Officer, you’ll help provide friendly, helpful support to people who need help with technology. You’ll learn how to deliver excellent customer service and find ways to improve our ICT services. You’ll work mainly in the office, but you might also have the chance to go to different council locations with other ICT staff.

Key Responsibilities:

During your placement, you’ll:

  • Work closely with other staff to perform simple, routine tasks in a structured setting.
  • Help install or remove hardware (like computers) and software by following instructions.
  • Carry out basic maintenance, like updates or checks on computers.
  • Help investigate and solve issues with software or hardware.
  • Keep accurate records of the work you do.
  • Offer help to users in a friendly, professional way and refer them to other staff if needed.
  • Join other team members on site visits to help support council services in different locations.

About You:

To do well in this role, you should:

  • Be adaptable and willing to try different tasks.
  • Enjoy working with others, including people of different ages and backgrounds.
  • Be organised and able to manage tasks and time.
  • Be enthusiastic about learning new skills and following guidance from experienced staff.

This placement is a great opportunity if you’re interested in technology, working with people, and gaining experience in customer support. You’ll develop valuable skills that can help you in many different careers.

  • Hours: Mon - Fri: 09:00 - 17:00 with up to 60 mins for lunch (lunchtime may vary). We are flexible on hours however.
  • Meals: If in the office, bring a packed lunch, or you are welcome to walk into Dorchester to buy lunch. Times of breaks to be discussed.
  • Travel: Transport to and from placement to be arranged by learner.
  • Clothing: Clean, smart-casual clothes.
