About the role

Are you a creative communicator and marketing specialist passionate about making a difference? Join Dorset Council’s forward-thinking Transport Planning Team as a Strategic Engagement Officer, where you’ll shape the future of how we move in Dorset.

In this strategic and dynamic role, you will:

  • Lead the engagement strategy for transformative active travel schemes (walking, wheeling, and cycling).
  • Champion the next phase of Dorset’s electric vehicle charge point programme, delivering on-street charging solutions across the county.
  • Drive consultation and communication for Local Transport Plan 4, ensuring the voices of our communities are heard and their needs addressed.

Your work will be critical in helping Dorset Council meet the objectives of the Dorset Council Plan: boosting economic prosperity, creating healthier communities, enabling sustainable development, and protecting our natural environment.

What’s in It for You?

  • Make an Impact: Your work will directly contribute to Dorset’s transition to sustainable transport, helping communities thrive while tackling climate change.
  • Innovative Projects: Be part of projects that shape the future, from EV infrastructure to high-quality active travel initiatives.
  • Collaborative Culture: Work with a dedicated and passionate team, engaging with diverse communities across the region.
  • Professional Growth: Gain exposure to large-scale strategic planning while enhancing your communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Work-Life Balance: Enjoy the flexibility of a role that values your time, offering hybrid working opportunities in one of the UK’s most beautiful regions.

About You

We’re looking for a skilled communicator with expertise in engagement, marketing, or public relations. You’ll thrive on building relationships, managing consultations, and creating compelling content to inspire change and build trust.

Join us in making Dorset a leader in sustainable, community-focused transport solutions. Apply today and help shape the future!

Dorset Council has a flexible working policy, and the transport planning team has a hybrid working pattern mixing office-based and home working. The position requires occasional evening and weekend working.

This post requires significant travel. You must have a vehicle (or transport we deem suitable) available for use as needed.
