An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as an Animal Welfare and Dog Control Officer, ensuring that good animal welfare standards are maintained and we continue to to support responsible dog ownership.

What you will be doing
The Animal Welfare and Dog Control team consists of 4 officers who are managed by the Team Leader. This team sits within the wider Environmental Protection Team, a team of 20 dedicated officers working across the Unitary Council area.
Our friendly, professional and customer focused team have an empathy with animals, making sure the welfare conditions and the way they are kept and looked after is appropriate. The work has a legislative backing and you will be required to use this and your good communication skills to advise owners and others who carry out animal related commercial activities of their responsibilities.
As your role will be agile, you will be supplied with a work vehicle which will be fitted out so that animals can be transported safely and comfortably. There will be a need for weekend and bank holiday working on occasion.
We are looking for a self motivated person who can work independently but be happy to support colleagues where necessary. To join the team within this role you must have the ability to adapt to circumstances as they present themselves, act assertively to ensure you are understood and convey any legislative requirements. This role is not just about handling and protecting animals but ensuring that dog owners and premises requiring a licence meet those legislative requirements. You will be working in some confrontational situations and a calm manner is needed.
A qualification in or working towards an OFQUAL level 3 (including the animal licensing element) will be required for the role.
This is a fixed term opportunity until 31/01/2023.
