Accommodation Officer

Fixed term until 28 Feburary 2022 - 37 hours per week

We are looking for an Accommodation Officer (Temporary Accommodation) to join our team. You will be contributing to the increasingly important work of the Councils Housing Solutions Service to place clients into Temporary Accommodation properties and to ensure that we deliver value for money through the effective management of this process.

What you will be doing

We are seeking to recruit an Accommodation Officer to join a dedicated Housing and Partnership Team. The main functions of the post is to manage the physical condition of the directly managed temporary accommodation so that it is in a permanent lettable state, conduct inspections, book repairs and maintenance as necessary, organise redecorations and ensure any communal areas are clean and safe. To arrange placements of clients, into temporary accommodation, including sourcing and arranging B&B placements. To control the councils liability, monitor Housing benefit payments, tackle antisocial behavior, pursue accommodation charge arrears, investigate suspected abandonment, eviction process, organize storage and disposal of former tenants possessions.

About you

  • You will ensure that all properties that are provided to us as Temporary Accommodation are matched to a suitable applicant in a timely manner and all associated paperwork/system work is completed accurately and quickly.
  • You will work with internal and external colleagues as well as our temporary accommodation providers to minimize void times and to ensure occupation of these properties.
  • You will match to suitable available temporary accommodation properties, by carrying out an in depth and thorough matching and suitability exercise.
  • You will complete the sign up process for clients matched to a suitable temporary accommodation in a specified time frame.
  • You will deal with suitability of temporary accommodation requests in person, in writing and over the telephone.
  • You will manage customer expectation with regards to rehousing requests by promoting all housing options.
