Project Support officer (Digital Place)

There’s an opportunity to become part of the award-winning Digital Place team which will keep Dorset connected through the coming decades. The past year has shown how vital internet connections are to people’s life and work. Help us build the next generation network and equip residents and businesses to make the most of it.   

What you will be doing

You will work across the whole Digital Place team, on a variety of projects that help people get a great broadband connection and learn the skills to get the most out of it. You will be based in the Digital Skills and Adoption Programme team which has many initiatives underway or in planning to help local people understand how being connected can benefit them. Most of your time will be working on projects to address the digital divide and help the offline community of 35,000 people to get online. Improving the skills and confidence of Dorset’s limited internet users will help them benefit from the social, economic and community benefits of being online.

You will be working with the project team to help people get online for the first time. You could be

  • getting devices set up and delivered to people, making sure they can connect to the internet and know how to get started
  • helping our partners in Dorset’s commercial, voluntary and community organisations to support their service-users to get people online
  • working with public sector partners across the UK to understand best practice and share learning
  • working with our businesses to understand what digital skills they need and helping to find ways to provide them. 

At other times you might be working on the broadband programme to improve the broadband network and inform residents about what service is available to them. We also have a full programme of activities to encourage people get involved in Dorset’s digital projects, so you might be booking national digital leaders to speak at our next event or facilitating a group looking how digital may be deployed in the future.


About you

We are looking for a project officer who is versatile, energetic and well-organised. You will have good communications skills and probably have worked in a fast-moving project environment previously.

You will be used to supporting project leads, managing project governance and controls and be confident in using MS products including MS Teams.
